SERVICES
Direct-Push Services:
Bronson Drilling utilizes a 2005 AMS Powerprobe 9630 VTR-M, one of the most versatile direct-push units available
today. Roughly equivalent to, but more powerful than the Geoprobe 5400 series probes, the VTR-M has 22,000 pounds
of pulldown force and 27,000 pounds of pull-up force - more than enough power to complete most direct-push projects.
The rig is only three feet wide, making almost any location readily accessible.
In addition to standard soil sampling, Bronson Drilling is capable of installing PVC monitoring wells, either by inserting them
in an open borehole, or by driving a steel casing. The latter method is used in caving conditions, where most probe
operators would not be able to install a PVC well. The casing is driven to depth, its point is knocked out, and the PVC
inserted into the casing. The casing is then retracted, leaving the well at the desired depth.
Angle Probing:
Bronson Drilling's VTR-M is capable of probing at any angle, making it a perfect choice for sampling under houses or other
angle probing operations.
Limited-Access Probing:
For the past several years, Bronson Drilling has specialized in limited-access probing, using a variety of methods. The
VTR-M, at three feet in width, can access the majority of locations. But for basements, enclosed or waterlogged areas,
heavily wooded areas and other inaccessible drilling locations, other methods are required.
Bronson Drilling operates a 75-pound electric jackhammer, capable of driving Geoprobe soil sampling tools to depths up
to 20' in many locations. This is not to be confused with the puny 30- or 40-pound hammer-drills wielded by some of our
competitors. To our knowledge, we are the only drilling company in New England with an operator capable of lifting this
type of hammer. The massive strength of our operator also allows for the use of slide hammers, in places where not even a
jackhammer can reach, such as crawlspaces. Any location to which a human being can crawl is fair game.
Materials Injection and Well Abandonment:
Bronson Drilling uses a Geoprobe GS-2000 piston pump for the injection of grout and remedial compounds. As a licensed
driller, Bronson Drilling is qualified to abandon any size monitoring well per state requirements; one way to do this is by
tremie grouting a bentonite slurry into the well using our GS-2000.
More often, though, the GS-2000 is used to inject bioremediation compounds, oxidation chemicals, bacteria slurries and
other remedial compounds. Injection points can be either temporary, using Geoprobe injection tooling, or permanent, using
well screen and casing. And, of course, all injections can be done in limited access situations.
Steel Mykrowell Installation:
Bronson Drilling started out installing steel mykrowells, and although we do not use this technology very often any more, we
still offer it to some of our older clients who prefer it. More often, these days, we use PVC well materials.
A mykrowell consists of steel pipe, with vertical slots laser-cut to form a 10-slot screen. The screen is fitted with a steel
point and driven directly into the ground either by the drill rig, or by hand, in limited access situations. Any screen length is
possible. On top of the screen, steel riser pipe is hydraulically crimped onto the screen and the pipes are advanced into the
ground. This simple, inexpensive and effective method allows the installation of many wells in a day when soil sampling is
not required. It is perfect for vertical profiling, as the well can be sampled at various depths during installation. We install
these wells for the same price as PVC wells. Some lead time is required before setting up a job with this technology.
